Cuckoo Falls

SORRY! CUCKOO FALLS WALKING TRACK IS CURRENTLY CLOSED DUE TO TRACK DAMAGE….but have a look at the other great walks and waterfalls in North East Tasmania! Passing through pure rainforest above the Hogarth Rivulet the valley narrows and becomes steeper until the rivulet can be heard tumbling over two steep granite shelves for abouty 30 metres. These are the beautiful Cuckoo Falls

The walk through the forest to the beautiful Cockoo Falls on the Hogarth Rivulet is a pleasant 2.5 – 3 hour walk equiring reasonable fitness.

Approximately 6km east of Scottsdale on the Tasman Highway (A3) signage directs the visitor through native forest and plantation forests to the beginning of the walking track.

Twice crossing the Hogarth Rivulet on a small footbridge before passing through open blackwood forest the track climbs steadily on firstly an old logging track and then follows an old cattle track where, in the early 1900’s, the cattle were walked to summer grazing pastures on McLennans Hill.

Hiking through tall wet eucalypt forest you may occasionally see an old stump with shoe holes used by pioneer loggers.  This is a wonderful example of how native forests regenerate after fire and logging.

Gaining elevation the route leaves the cattle track and goes on through pure rainforest above the Hogarth Rivulet which has been on the left as you climbed.

The valley narrows and becomes steeper until the rivulet can be heard tumbling over two steep granite shelves of approximately 30 metres.

Cuckoo falls is an enjoyable spot for a picnic lunch before retracing your steps to the car park.
